teaching in today's society

In today’s society money and success are valued, education is ignored. Parents’ first concern deals with their career’s. Although their child’s intellectual independence is important it does not come close to the importance of money. Teachers are the core of the future society’s knowledge, determination, and success. In order for anyone to be successful they need to be independent, driven and intelligent. Teachers provide an environment in a classroom that forces students to achieve their best. Highly qualified teachers have developed into a solo tool that parents rely on to help their child succeed in society. This is a problem that has been brewing for decades. It is more apparent in areas of severe poverty or extreme wealth, because the parents are less inclined to be involved in their child’s academic or social life. The families that are struggling to survive are working two jobs and have no time to inspire their children. On the other extreme, wealthy families have social gatherings or work obligations which gives them an excuse to be absent in their child’s academics. Undoubtedly, teachers are an integral part of a child’s education by teaching academic concepts, social and behavioral skills. Parents remain the individuals with the responsibility to encourage and nurture their child’s passions and interests. In today’s society, parents are working more hours and spending less time monitoring their children’s academic lives. They are forcing the school systems to hold more responsibility than normal academics.

My heartfelt desire is to make a difference in the lives of young children. Just like my inspiring teachers did for me! During my educational journey, I was privileged to have countless models of outstanding teachers from kindergarten until now. The teachers that I formed a relationship with accepted my strengths and weaknesses. Their desire was to teach me to preserve and work through my hardship to achieve my goals.

Every child has a purpose in our world, but not every child is given the chance to prove what their purpose can or will be in society. As I prepare for my instruction, I will consider how I am helping students discover their gifts. This will be my goal in my classroom as a teacher. I will help every student find their unique characteristics and teach them how to use this characteristic in their everyday lives. The most important tool I can offer to my future students will be the awareness of parental involvement. I will look for opportunities to involve my student's parents in my classroom. If I can see a lack of parent involvement I will essentially force that student to understand the importance of success and try to reprimand the parents for their deficit in concern for their child’s achievements.

It is my desire to empower young students to reach for their academic potential. I want to encourage students’ curiosity about the world in which they live. Many teachers have shared their inspiration for learning with me, now it is my turn to share my drive with a new generation of students. As I follow my heart and passion, the field of education offers many opportunities for me to make a difference in the lives of our next generation of learners. I will share my experiences with my children and give them tools to handle their challenges I battled for the majority of my college career. My academic victories will give me resources to teach my students how to meet their academic obstacles. Armed with my life experiences, college education and a passion to learn, I am excited to accept the responsibility to teach our next generation of children.
